LFC Landers Fairies & Clark of New Britan, CT. started making Official Scout pocket knives in 1931. Earliest knives had LFC, Landers Fairies & Clark on the tang. After 1936 the marking on the tang was changed to Universal. Universal was the first company to introduce a black “composition” handle, years before plastic handles came on the scene. LFC quit making Scout knives in 1939.
